@Ruben, mannix: (video transcoding) You may want to check Valerio Minetti's work. He created a PHP daemon for ffmpeg transcoding. I didn't try it yet but maybe it could provide a nice start for you?
@Ruben: (Discuss support) As far as I can remember there was a plugin on github for that, maybe it also works with the latest MediaCore CE. If there was volunteer support I'd be happy to help defining a real interface (so the comments engine can be swapped). The first step for you would be to find and install that plugin and report your findings.

@bpreston: thumbnails in the RSS feed sounds like a pretty small thing to, probably even a good beginner task. As a first step you could check which XML you need to include a thumbnail inside an RSS feed.

@finid: playlists are a good idea and were also requested by another customer. Currently not on my list but might get some work in late 2013.

Two features that would be nice to have:
1. Maintenance mode. That is, being able to put the site in that mode until it's ready to go live.
2. Make the Add New Media button accessible from any page of the admin interface.
