   First off we're so happy to have found Mediacore. We got so burned by the poor functionality of Kaltura and even though there's plenty MC doesn't do yet, what it does it does so well. Thanks Felix for your hard work on this. I'm hoping to see what support in the education community I can drum up to further development of this great project.

   I got pretty excited to see there was a Wordpress plugin but from what I understand it only works on the cloud version. I dug into the javascript calls to see what's different between their API calls and the CE versions and it wasn't immediately clear why it wouldn't work. Any idea what would have to be changed in the plugin to make it compatible with CE? Has anyone attempted to get this to work?

   The good news is that the Moodle integration plugin works brilliantly, but with WordPress I just use the iframe source provided in the embed and then insert it into the text (html) side of the post.

   That's fine for me and other savvy users, but most of my users would expect that function to be in the editor, with a button. I use multisite so I didn't test everything out there, but maybe a WordPress iframe plugin would do the job?

   Yeah, I don't think the embed codes are too hard, but I would love to have that searchable interface that the official Wordpress plugin offers. We have a multisite install used on our campus and the ability to quickly embed any video that has been added to our media server would be awesome. I'm imagining when a professor is setting up a blog for a course I can tell him to do a search for a few screencasts that he could quickly embed. He doesn't have to leave the Wordpress interface at all, rather hit the Mediacore button, search, and embed. Since the plugin isn't terribly complicated I was hoping it would be a matter of adjusting a few API calls to get it to connect properly (but maybe as a non-programmer type that's easier said than done? :-)

   It's not too hard, especially since there's already an example in the wild, just needs to have the API documented. The community version of it is different than the full version. You're right, being able to find the stuff from where they already are is a killer feature. Wonder what Felix has to say.

   So the Moodle plugin works with the community edition? I'll have to dig into it and see how the calls compare to the Wordpress plugin and figure out what's different. We don't use Moodle on our campus, we have Canvas (which is also on my list to try and integrate MC with). So many possibilities, I really need to brush up on coding and dive in here!

   Yes, that's right Moodle plugin works great with community edition. You have to turn off requiring an API key though. I did hear Canvas is great too.

   Just a quick answer because I'm short time right now: I'd be interested if PHP could have a look at SimpleStation's PHP modules (WordPress, Moodle) and check what needs to be adapted so it works also with MediaCore CE.

   I assume these PHP modules use the JSON API. In the cloud version that uses HTTP Basic AUTH and no API key anymore (I assume that's why you have to disable the API key requirement in CE).

   As far as I am aware we need some relatively minor changes to be fully compatible with the cloud API (retrieving categories).

   Thanks Felix. You're correct, the plugin is using JSON to grab the data. It just has one setting, the URL of the server, which it parses to format the api calls properly. The code for grabbing the media, formatting the display, and embedding is all in javascript actually. For now from what I can tell the plugin basically is grabbing the latest 10 videos and listing them with thumb and title. Arrows at top for pagination (which the plugin just adjusts the offset of the call), and a search function to display videos based on a search. Outside of an errant semicolon messing up the API call that I removed I got stuck when the plugin wanted a jsonpcallback that the server wasn't providing. I can still copy the API call and paste in a browser and get a proper response but the plugin can't get it and parse it.

   Can you provide me with some details about the jsonpcallback (which URL is called)? This would save me some time of installing the WordPress addon myself and trying to debug that.

   If you can come up with list of missing things in MediaCore CE to get the WordPress plugin working out of the box, that would be even better!

    I'm treading water in terms of what I can figure out on my own but here's what I've got so far (which will hopefully help shed some light on the issue):

    The url being called is http://media.umw.edu/api/media?callback=mcorejsonpcallback&limit=10&include_embed=1&_=1358734662312

    In the console I get the following error:

    Navigating to that URL directly delivers the API call with no issues. I don't yet know if there's any formatting to the API that needs to be done because the plugin doesn't even want to talk to the server without that jsonp callback. Again, this is new territory to me so I hope some of this is making sense. Happy to troubleshoot in any way I can, as well as provide a test environment with login if you'd like to work on this.
