Mediacore 0.9.4 error when attempting to add a video URL (Youtube, Vimeo)

Hi - I will be more than happy to provide any more information if need be.

I have a Mediacore installation on Ubuntu

lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release: 12.04
Codename: precise

I have the install with Apache/mod_wsgi. It works, but there are some headaches with it.

I can view the admin interface, the site, I can upload videos (mp4 I've tried thus far, but when I attempt a Youtube or Vimeo URL, it fails.

The message:

Failed to add this file. Please try again. -in red on the manage files screen.

Where is a good place to look for clues? I'm new to Mediacore, but I know my way around Linux, Apache and Python (well, some Python)

Where is a good place to start?

First of all, check the wsgi/Apache error logs. Then it would be good to know which version of MediaCore you installed. And last but not least a specific example would be nice as well :-)

Oh - Mediacore is v0.9.4.

I do have logs available, and I do see some oddities (90% of Linux issues are permissions, so I'm leaning toward that)

Now, I have Apache set to info for logging and here is a snippet of the log with the URL included within:

This is the type of error that I am getting. I'm not a wsgi guru, so I'm not sure what I am looking at. However, I'm hoping that will provide some clues.

MediaCore tries to send you an email about the upload (I think you configured a notification email address in the admin) but that fails because you don't have an SMTP server running on your machine.

Either just remove the email setting or just upgrade to MediaCore CE 0.10 (which I recommend). In the latter version you can configure the email server to use so you can use your existing one (see release notes).

Hello Felix - thanks - that was the issue! Seems like such a simple thing to cause a big issue.

Thanks for your help.

I have not read the release notes as of yet, but is there a big advantage to using MediaCore CE 0.10? It is a relatively new install, so I'm thinking that it would not be a huge undertaking to update/upgrade.

yeah I guess we should do something to mitigate the effects.

Well, the new release contains many fixes and better compatibility with external platforms, e.g. YouTube and Facebook.
