Installing the plugin "mediacore_seo"

Hello, :)

Two little things about the "mediacore_seo" plugin that I successfully installed (on the final version 0.9.0):

1) Could be cool to have a README about how to install plugins, either in the package or on http://mediacore.com/plugins ; maybe it's just me but I didn't find it.

2) To install, I do "source mediacore_env/bin/activate" then in the SEO plugin directory "python setup.py install" then reload MediaCore with "touch mediacore/deployment-scripts/mod_wsgi/mediacore.wsgi". And OK, I have the new menu "SEO" in my admin panel ( http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/2851/pluginse.png ). But when I click on it, I have the error "Error - <class 'genshi.template.loader.TemplateNotFound'>: Template "seo/admin/settings.html" not found" in the logs and the error code 500 in the web interface. Resolved (see after) but... strangely, the plugin didn't create a directory in "mediacore/mediacore/plugin" directory? Tried to put all the directory "MediaCore-SEO-0.9.0b1" in it, same error. Then tried to do the same with the "mediacore_seo" (directory presents in MediaCore-SEO-0.9.0b1), even tried with renaming the directory to "seo" (as in the logs MediaCore seems to search a "seo" directory), same error. Reloaded MediaCore after each time to be sure of course. So, I needed to copy the "MediaCore-SEO-0.9.0b1/mediacore_seo/templates" as "mediacore/mediacore/templates/seo". Like so, MediaCore found what he wants ("seo/admin/settings.html", in the global templates directory). Where is my mistake not having managed to successfully install the plugin in the "plugin" directory and so, WITHOUT touching to the MediaCore installation as currently?

Ah interesting, apparently we haven't configured the plugin packages quite right. There is an easy workaround however. Instead of running "python setup.py install", you must instead run "python setup.py develop". Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

Ah, the famous "python setup.py develop"! Thanks!
As there is no "python setup.py uninstall" for plugins (will be very cool btw), what is the files I need to delete to restart again with "python setup.py develop"? Just this one: "mediacore_env/lib/python2.6/site-packages/MediaCore_SEO-0.9.0b1-py2.6.egg"? :)

Yeah just that and the seo templates you copied into MediaCore's templates folder.

Hum... Tried to do that just now and...
If I use only "python setup.py develop", I don't have the file "MediaCore_SEO-0.9.0b1-py2.6.egg", just "MediaCore-SEO.egg-link". And after reloading MediaCore, no admin menu added at all so. And when I do just after "python setup.py install", the .egg is added and I have the new admin menu. But always need to use the templates global directory to have a page when I click on this new menu.

The egg-link is all that should be there. It basically tells python it can find the MediaCore-SEO plugin at the location you initially ran "python setup.py develop". Did you happen to move the plugin files after you ran that command or something like that? And did you install the MediaCore-SEO plugin to the same virtualenv as your MediaCore installation?

Ahh, OK, understood! All is OK now. Thanks! :)

So, for other people who would like to install plugins, here is how I installed this plugin correctly now:

- source /path/to/right/directory/mediacore_env/bin/activate
- cd /path/to/right/directory/mediacore/mediacore/plugin/
- wget http://mediacore.com/files/MediaCore-SEO-0.9.0b1.zip
- unzip MediaCore-SEO-0.9.0b1.zip
- rm MediaCore-SEO-0.9.0b1.zip
- cd MediaCore-SEO-0.9.0b1
- python setup.py develop
- touch /path/to/right/directory/mediacore/deployment-scripts/mod_wsgi/mediacore.wsgi (to reload MediaCore, in my case I use mod_wsgi)
- Done! Plugin is now shown and working in the admin interface ( http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/2851/pluginse.png ).

=> I now have only the .egg-link file in mediacore_env:
ls -al /path/to/right/directory/mediacore_env/lib/python2.6/site-packages/MediaCore*SEO*
> And this .egg-link file contains correctly this: /path/to/right/directory/mediacore/mediacore/plugin/MediaCore-SEO-0.9.0b1

And no templates problem anymore! The admin menu is here, the page too when I click on it. It's now correctly this directory that is used to show templates for this plugin:
/path/to/right/directory/mediacore/mediacore/plugin/MediaCore-SEO-0.9.0b1/mediacore_seo/templates/

So, thanks Nathan. I now better understand the concept of plugins for MediaCore. :)

Hello,

I post here because my issue is in the same way.

I develop a new plugin where I override the images of the .meta-hover* classess.

On my development server (localhost), I haven't any problem but on the production server (http://tube.framasoft.info), the images of my plugin doesn't appears. They are replace by the default images, and when I click on 'Show the background image' in Firefox, I've this : http://tube.framasoft.info/mediacore_identica/public/images/layout/meta-hover-top.png which is the default image with the address of my new image.

I think that's a problem with my Apache configuration because I use the mod_wsgi module. But I don't find where is the problem. I copy the Apache sites-available file from the installation documentation of the MediaCore site.

If you need more information, please notify me.

Quentin: Please open new threads in the future. I feel that your problem is actually not related.

Please check if you have 'static_files = true' in your deployment.ini.

What do you mean by "I develop a new plugin where I override the images of the .meta-hover* classess."? So your plugin provides different images under the same name as base MediaCore?

Sorry for the post.

On my deployment.ini file, the static_files diective is equal to true.

On my plugin I override the images with images on same names. But I try to change the name of the images, but the problem is always here.

On my apache logs, I've this error :
[Wed Jun 22 21:34:12 2011] [error] [client 92.148.212.175] File does not exist: /home/framatube/www/mediacore/mediacore/public/images/layout/identica-meta-hover-top.png, referer: http://framatube.org/

It seems that the server try to find the image on public repository of base MediaCore not in public path of the plugin.
