Tutorial: How to Install MediaCore on Ubuntu Detailed Guide

Alright everyone the much anticipated moment has come... this is my OFFICIAL Guide to installing the MediaCore video platform on Ubuntu.

FOLLOW EVERYTHING TO A "T" and you should have no issues

UBUNTU 10.10

You will need: Adobe Acrobat: http://get.adobe.com/reader/
You will need: 7z or WinRAR: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/
My Tutorial Package: http://www.mediafire.com/?ahaqhzbsxtzofxh

NOTE: IF YOU ARE NOT USING UBUNTU 10.10 you may need to Install python2.6
I chose that install because it seems to be the best one to allow full usage of MediaCore
and PandaStream.

OtherVersions of Ubuntu
apt-get install python2.6

I HOPE EVERYONE takes full advantage of the guide....DONT SKIP ANY STEPS

Thanks for the tutorial, I finally got it working thanks to you. Keep up the great work ! The pdf itself is very clear and should really be part of the mediacore documentation :)

Im vary Glad to hear that, I have actually been offered the opportunity to add this to the exhisting Documentation...and before i did that i wanted to verify that at least one person read through and found it clear, and helpful so i will begin adding this, and hopefully soon it will become part of the documentation.

Any chance you going to make a video tutorial for the "Apache & mod_wsgi Deployment" ?

I am sure it would make life a lot easier for many here :)

Hi James,

We just downloaded your install guide and watched the video here in the office, awesome job! It's a great in depth guide, I'm sure this will help out lots of users who were previously having trouble. Is it alright if we post this on our demo? We'd give you full credit of course.

I have been out of the States Recently, whitch is why i have not been on MEDIACORE...
HOWEVER YES... That would be no problem at all. The more it is available to people the easier we
can make this process for people

James, can you please make deployment tutorial, was having problem with Apache & mod_wsgi Deployment.

Nice tutorial, just want to mention that on ubuntu 11.04 it will not work.. after few hours I managed to get it working with ngix pretty good, site was running an playing videos... but could not upload anything or link from youtube or vimeo...

Issue is with PIL it will not recognize any library you have installed before...

I will create new virtual machine on try on 10.10

Giving up for today, always stops me on something else on 11.04... what a shame, I would like to use mediacore :-/

And I managed to upload picture :D and add video !

Needed to get sleep and install PIL separately... all I need to get working now is TKINTER than I post how the hell to make it work :D

Oki quick guide how to get the PIL working on ubuntu 11.04 before I made some more logic one :D this is for 11.04 32bit edition.

Go for it as in this tutorial above until:
python setup.py develop

than:

(mediacore_env)root@Baldr:/mediacore# pip uninstall PIL

wget http://effbot.org/downloads/Imaging-1.1.6.tar.gz

tar -xzvf Imaging-1.1.6.tar.gz
cd Imaging-1.1.6

edit the setup.py

FREETYPE_ROOT = "/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/"
JPEG_ROOT = "/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/"
TIFF_ROOT = "/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/"
ZLIB_ROOT = "/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/"
TCL_ROOT = "/usr/include/tcl8.5/"

apt-get build-dep python-imaging

pyhton setup.py build
python setup.py build_ext -i
python setup.py install

that should get you going and make PIL fully working...

Thanks, but still not working here. But I have the 64bit version and I have changed the paths to /usr/lib64/. Is that correct so far?

Bernie: Yes, /usr/lib64 is likely correct in your setup then.

can anyone share to us the video tutorial or pdf file regarding the mediacore installation in ubuntu 10.10. i also want to know what version of mediacore was used by James at that time. I don't know if installing the Mediacore 0.9.3 in Ubuntu 10.10 would work just fine. Actually, I am a newbie in this area. I am still a student and I need your help. It would be very much appreciated. Thanks

These tutorials seem to be gone. I'd like to check them out and see if I can apply them to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit.
