   Hi, hope you can help I'm really struggling. I've followed the installation procedure and cannot get thumbnails to load. I receive the error message 'Saving the file failed. Please try again'

   I have checked permissions for the image directory, i think this is a problem with zlib and libjpeg. Which I have checked are installed. I notice during the python setup.py it says these are not available (they are though).

   This is on ubuntu 11.10 server 64

   I have followed the preliminary pre-requisites and the installation procedure exactly

   Anyone else have this problem and has been able to resolve it?

   I have solved the issue (in my case)

   For anyone else having problems with uploading thumbnails (On Ubuntu) it may be due to PIL not properly finding zlib and libjpeg.

   I resolved it by creating links to the libraries as below

   sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfreetype.so /usr/lib
   sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libz.so /usr/lib
   sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libjpeg.so /usr/lib

   Also don't forget to do the preliminary requirements at the below page

   deanb: That looks a bit scary. Basically you're pretend that you 32 bit binaries are 64 bit. I think you should install the 64 bit variants for zlib+libjpeg.

   Same problem here but not fixed.Its telling
   ln: creating symbolic link `/usr/lib/libjpeg.so': File exists.
   For libz.so libfreetype.so all.

   Guruprasad: The "fix" mentioned above is very likely incorrect. Please post a new issue describing your distribution version + the error you're seeing.
